The USS Ouellet Association has committed to sponsoring and funding annual awards for the Naval Sea Cadet program at the New England Recruit Training Boot Camp in remembrance and in honor of Medal of Honor recipient David Ouellet. Two $250 awards are made each year. An "Honor Grad" award is given to the Honor Cadet and a "Spirit Award" is given to the cadet who best demonstrates the characteristics (spirit) of David Ouellet as established by the Ouellet family. Since the cost for a cadet to attend boot camp is $250 these awards would defray the Cadet's expenses and would enable him/her to attend additional advanced Sea Cadet training events. Selection of the winning cadets is made by the Sea Cadet Recruit Training staff. Whenever possible members of the Ouellet family will present these awards. If this isn't possible we will attempt to have a representative of the USS Ouellet Association make the presentation. Success of this program is dependant on member donations Should contributions/donations from members, corporate sponsorships, or other outside financial assistance fall below the $500 goal the association may be reduce or suspended its annual donation amount towards this program as necessary.
