2021 Reunion Schedule of Events

Ladies and Gents, 

 

Working with AFR Tours to arrange some optional military tours during Norfolk reunion.  Planning a half day tour on Thursday and a full day tour on Saturday, if we can swing it.  The minimum for a half day is 30 and full day is 35. Max Bus capacity 55.

Here is the preliminary lineup:

 

Welcome to Coast Virginia Tour - Half Day (This tour is pending base access)

Enjoy a narrated drive along the sparkling waters of the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean, then see Norfolk's lovely district and restored downtown area.  Visit Norfolk Naval Station, home of the worlds' largest naval installation to see the might ships of the Atlantic fleet.  Conclude the tour with an ice cream cone at the famous Doumar's Cones and BBQ, home of the world's first ice cream cone.  

 

Norfolk Botanical Gardens Tour - Half Day or Full Day (more info to follow)

Not military related more for lady guests and romantic sailors. Guided walking or narrated tram tour, may include other sites. 

 

Virginia's Historic Triangle - Full Day 

Visit the historic Virginia Peninsula and follow the footsteps of America's early patriots with a leisurely walking tour of Colonial Williamsburg, the nation's largest living history museum. See costumed interpreters living the life of the 18th century on your overview tour and then shop in charming Merchants Square.  At Jamestown Settlement, tour the recreated Powhatan Indian Village, James Fort and replicas of three ships which brought English settlers to the shores of Virginia in 1607.  Drive along the beautiful Colonial Parkway to the quaint village of Yorktown, site of the last major battle of the Revolutionary War. 

 

Military, Memorials and Museums - Full Day

Explore Coastal Virginia rich military history starting with Mariner's Museum, one of the largest and most comprehensive maritime history museums in the world.  Next, journey to The Virginia War Museum, which captures the development of the U.S. military from its beginning in 1775 through artifacts, uniforms, weapons, and more.  Explore more than 14,000 square feet of exhibits capturing the vehicles and machinery used throughout our Army's U.S. and learn why it became known as "the Freedom Fort."   

 

Virginia Beach Air & Sea - Full Day

Visit the Military Aviation Museum which features the largest collection of restored WWI, WWII and Korean War era aircraft in the country. Tour the Virginia Beach Surf & Rescue Museum, a former life-saving station from 1903, which houses exhibits dedicated to preserving our maritime heritage.  Life-saving service, shipwrecks and Coast Guard rescue work through World War II at the oceanfront are all displayed in two floors of exhibits.  Enjoy riding tour and stop at Old Cape Henry Lighthouse and First Cross to walk on the overlook to see where the English colonists landed prior to establishing the first permanent settlement in 1607.  Enjoy craft beer and a tour and tasting at Young Veterans Brewing Co., one of Virginia Beach's craft breweries, owned and operated by veterans of the Iraq War.

Other good news, worked with hotel and we have 40 rooms at the $106 block rate until the 7 August 2021 cutoff. Currently 28 shipmates and 19 guests (47 total) are signed up.
